network ( roll call ) un: buffy

( Buffy sets the phone down on the mantle of the fire place in her suite. It's not to her taste - needlessly too luxurious, but it's hers. And she has something to say. She's talked it over with Xander, with Faith, and with Allison.

They're stuck. The vampire who could help them knows less than they do and once again history is not on anybody's side. Just once she wishes there was social media in the olden days. Maybe there'd be a status update with information they and Caroline need.

Anyway, she can play island general - or, cat herder.
)

Is it -- okay, I think I'm live. So. Hi. For those of you that don't know me, I'm Buffy. I thought maybe those of us who've just arrived, maybe it would benefit us to compare notes? I know most of us were at the party and they saw the -- wall of memories best forgotten -- and ... is it true other people have forgotten things? A friend of mine forgot a friend of his, who died. That's not something easily forgotten.

So, I just want to take stock. We all know this is an island. That it's magic. That everyone has a different idea of what is here, and that nothing is made or order right. I know that last part is probably lower on the Greek totem pole of frustration, but I actually think I might have a solution?

I know the last thing any of us asked for when we got here was a job. Some of us are actually on our jobs. But, we're cut off from everyone. My friends and I, we had a way home and -- well, we can't get back. So. I thought, along with note comparing, general commiseration and the inevitable interrupting, maybe we can lay out a skill we all have? We could take bartending or restaurant or even shop shifts -- you know, if there are the others of us that... need something. Again, lower down on the priority list but still good to think about.

So, I'm going to reply to this message, just so that there's a specific - thread? That people can approach me - with my skills.

And then you guys, you can share yours. Skills, notions, thoughts. Experiences. The better we get a handle of what's going on here, the better we'll be at handling what comes next.

( And with that, she defiantly holds her position before -- realizing she needs to end the feed so she breaks her regal pose and ... leans forward, tilts her head. How does she. OH. And there. The feed cuts out. )

If there's no laws, then he's not breaking them

After giving Caroline the idea of what they could do to find the guy she's looking for, how could he not agree to help? Not that it feels like it is going to be much work. Except they don't know how many of the pod people workers there are, and just how much they're being watched over.

He does keep his phone in his pocket, wrapped in a handkerchief because he's just paranoid enough to worry that somehow they're being listened in on or tracked through them. Lounging against the front of the front desk, trying to look entirely casual. He's much better undercover than he might seem since he looks so conspicuous as he nods at some of the others moving through the hotel.

Here he is a zombie, and it still feels crazy that he's looking out so Caroline can try and find a vampire who might be hiding in the hotel. What else is real? He's not sure he's ready to find out.

Paradise Lost

Their secret had been revealed and the world, in Josef's world, knew that vampires existed. They knew about him and Mick, by name. There was no choice but to leave, to run and hope they can start over, but in this day and age of computer aid graphics and world wide internet, how soon would it be before artist renderings are revealed that show just what he and Mick look like?

He'd wanted to bring Mick with him, but he wasn't surprised when he refused. He lived more outside of their world than in it, and some pocket universe wasn't going to give him freedom from what he'd been able to lose and that Josef had given back to him. His one time turning someone and not failing, and it had been everything he'd tried to save Mick from.

In the end, he'd left without him. Left behind his fortune, Mick, his life, and the woman he loved.

Time was hazy, spend either drinking or indulging in the equivalent of moping, staying in the coolness of his refrigerated coffin for days on end. Months of late, but he has been feeling better, a hint of life and excitement that he hadn't felt in so long.

Which was when he realizes he isn't alone in the resort.

It's been so long since he's believed there were others there and he can nearly scent the blood in the air. Great.

It's late in the night, after the sun has set and his rooms are cast in artificial light, when Josef heads down to the bar. Dressed in tailored trousers and a striped linen shirt with the cuffs open and unbuttoned at the collar. Leather loafers make nearly no sound on the carpets as he heads straight behind the bar, not to pour himself a drink but to see signs of people here.

It's obvious others have been tending bar, and that means there's more than one person here, and they're settling in.

"Well then," he says, picking up a bottle and giving it a toss and a twirl before catching it and setting it back on the bar. There's enough around him to make him aware of several people, and the scent of blood as well as alcohol. "Someone went and turned on the vacancy sign, didn't they?"

network ( split up )

( Caroline Forbes is a planner. She has not one, but two witches on standby and she partnered up with a Slayer cell. It's a big secret, being a vampire, (from everyone but Xander, he walked in on a quick blood session) but not what witches are and not what she does: she founded a school for supernatural teenagers. In time, if this partnership pans out, then maybe she'll be honest about what she is. But, considering vampire slayer is in the title and sounds more glorified than anything, Caroline's not taking any chances.

Xander Harris is involved because he can read the schematics. A map was not easily found, and it's more structural - tunnels underneath the island and not a map of the island. But, Buffy trusts him and Faith is one of her best slayers. They have a 'complicated' history but they trust each other.

It's good enough for Caroline.

What isn't good enough for Caroline? Being separated almost immediately.

She's not aware that when she turns on the light on her phone (now not her phone, but a cute NectarPhone), she triggers something else.

Anybody with a NectarPhone of their own (including anybody who brought their phone in or was connected to one shortly after their arrival) gets a view of a dark tunnel and then of Xander Harris holding his hands up in front of his eye because, bright!
)

Hey, hey, watch my good eye.

It's your only eye, and I offered to heal it as a gesture of good will. Buffy? Faith?

( The light whirls around again, before she turns the phone down, giving everyone a view of the ground before she realizes -- )

It's ... on? The camera's going.

( She taps the icon that switches the view to - well, her, eyebrows raised. )

What do you mean the camera's go---oing. Are you broadcasting that right now? To who?

( Her eyes travel upward. This is why she usually works alone and very briefly with other groups of people. )

If I knew the answer to that, do you think I'd be acting so surprised? It's my first time here, too. Let's just find a way out of these tunnels.

( Moving the screen closer, she successfully ends the feed. )
